Men's Tennis: No. 2 AASU 8, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 1
SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic men's tennis squad tuned up for the upcoming 2006 dual match season with an 8-1 exhibition victory over Abraham Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon at Bacon Park in Savannah.
The Pirates' retuned lineup had little trouble with the junior college, sweeping all three doubles matches and picking up wins in five of six singles matches. Davor Zink, ranked No. 15 in Division II in singles, picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Derek Danzinger at No. 1 singles, while Robert Jendelund notched a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jayraj Jadeja at No. 3 singles. Newcomer Paul Bishop made his AASU debut a successful one with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lico Mejia at No. 4 singles.
The No. 5-ranked doubles duo of Jendelund and Taavo Roos paced the Pirates in doubles play, picking up an 8-3 win over Nikola Prpic and Tom Corrie at No. 1 doubles.
AASU opens the 2006 dual match season on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at PBC rival Augusta State in Augusta, Ga.
