AASU Softball Picked Third In PBAC Preseason Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State softball team has been picked to finish third in the 2000 Peach Belt standings, according to a poll of PBAC head coaches.

The Pirates received 86 points, two points behind North Florida and 12 points behind preseason favorite champion Kennesaw State. The Owls have won the PBAC title every season since joining the conference five years ago.

Last season's conference champion, Columbus State, was picked to finish fourth, followed by USC Spartanburg, Francis Marion, Georgia College & State and Augusta State. Lander and USC Aiken were picked to tie for ninth, and UNC Pembroke was selected to finish 11th.

AASU finished last season with a 42-10 record, 14-6 in the Peach Belt in just its second season of competition. The Pirates return all but one player from last season's squad.

The Pirates open their season on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they host Edward Waters College at 1 p.m.
