AASU's Burton Named PBC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. (October 2) Sophomore Kristin Burton has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon.
The reigning PBC Player of the Year, Burton helped the No. 8-ranked Pirates to two wins this week. She scored two first-half goals in AASU's 2-0 win over Queens (NC) on Thursday, then delivered the game-winning goal in the second half of Saturday's 1-0 win over GCSU, keeping the Pirates unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Ocala, Fla., native leads the Peach Belt Conference in goals with 13, and her 1.44 goals per game and 3.22 points per game rank third in NCAA Division II. More importantly, Burton has seven game-winning goals this season and, in her two years as a Lady Pirate, AASU is 16-0 when Burton scores the first goal of the match.
Burton, who was the league's Player of the Week earlier this season on Sept. 11, has now been honored by the league five times with its weekly award in her two seasons at AASU.
Burton and the No. 8-ranked Pirates face a stiff test in their next action on Wednesday as AASU visits No. 18-ranked and preseason PBC favorite Columbus State at 7:00 p.m. in Columbus, Ga.
