Kaneetha Gordon Named PBC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (December 3) – Senior Kaneetha Gordon has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced today by league officials. The Riceboro, Ga., native averaged 20.5 points per game in Armstrong Atlantic State’s two games this week.

Gordon began the week by pumping in 22 points in AASU’s 63-62 win over North Georgia in the Lady Pirates’ home and Peach Belt opener on Wednesday evening. She then scored 19 points and nine rebounds at No. 20 USC Aiken on Saturday.

An honorable mention All-America honoree last season, Gordon has also approached or exceeded several milestones in the early going this season. She became just the ninth player in AASU history to record 1,000 points and now sits in 18 points behind Tasha Washington (1,064 points, 2002-04) for eighth place in AASU history. Gordon also has 897 career rebounds and with three more will become just the second AASU player and fifth Peach Belt Conference player to record 900 rebounds in a career.  Her one blocked shot against USC Aiken gave her 63 blocks in her career, good for second all-time in AASU history and she also reached 400 field goals made for her career, just the sixth player in AASU history to reach that plateau.

This is the third PBC Player of the Week honoree for Gordon in her career – last season, she won the weekly honor twice, on Dec. 11, 2006, and February 26, 2007.

Gordon and the Lady Pirates return to action on Wednesday, December 5, with a 7:00 p.m. matchup with North Carolina Central. It will be AASU’s first matchup against an NCAA Division I squad in more than six years, since the Lady Pirates faced Nicholls State on November 24, 2001.
