AASU's Cason Named PBC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. Sophomore center Zandrique Cason was named the Peach Belt Conference's first Women's Basketball Player of the Week of the 2000-2001 season by conference officials today.
Cason currently leads the Peach Belt Conference in rebounding with 13.0 per game and ranks third in scoring, averaging 20.0 points per game. She has recorded five double-doubles in her first five games as a Lady Pirate, including 31 points and 13 rebounds in AASU's last action, a 79-61 win at Spelman College on Nov. 29.
The Tempe, Ariz., native is the first AASU women's basketball player to earn Peach Belt Player of the Week honors since Demetria McClouden was the PBC's Player of the Week for January 4, 1999. Her five double-doubles so far this season are as many as the Lady Pirate team had last all of last season.
The Lady Pirates' next action is on Wed., Dec. 6 as they host Spelman College at 6 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
