AASU Softball Picked Second In 2001 PBC Preseason Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State baseball team has been picked to finish second in the 2001 Peach Belt Conference standings, according to a poll of PBC coaches.

The Pirates received 95 points and five first place votes, just one point shy of Kennesaw State. The two schools shared the conference championship last season, each finishing with 18-2 records in league play. Columbus State received 76 points and was picked to finish third, followed by North Florida (74) and USC Spartanburg (62).

Georgia College & State was picked to finish sixth with 56 points, while Francis Marion (48) was picked seventh and Lander and USC Aiken (31) were picked to tie for 8th. Augusta State (23) was picked 10th and UNC Pembroke (12) was picked 11th.

The Pirates finished the 2000 season ranked No. 8 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll and a school-best 51-7 record. AASU returns PBC Player of the Year Annie Sells, who earned second-team All-America honors by going 23-3 with an 0.75 ERA and batting .364 with 13 home runs and 44 RBI.
