AASU's Campbell Named PBC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Robert Campbell was named the Peach Belt Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Campbell averaged 16.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.8 steals in helping the Pirates to a 4-1 record over the holidays , including back-to-back conference wins this week. The 1999-2000 PBC Player of the Year and a DII Bulletin Preseason All-America selection, Campbell achieved his 300th steal against Lander in the Pirates' 67-62 win over the Senators this past Saturday, becoming only the third player in NCAA Division II history to reach the 300 steal plateau. Campbell also scored 20 points in AASU's 67-50 win over Francis Marion (1/3) and 18 points in the Pirates' 68-48 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (12/22).

The honor is the first this season for Campbell and second overall. Campbell was the conference's player of the week on Feb. 7 of last season. The Hinesville native is averaging 13.7 points this season and ranks first in the league in assists (3.8 per game) and second in assists (6.1 per game), categories in which he lead the league last year.

The Pirates next play at Savannah State on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
