AASU's Campbell Named PBC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Robert Campbell, fresh off of his game-winning three-pointer that sank USC Aiken on Saturday evening at AASU Homecoming, was named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday by conference officials.

Campbell hit for a game-high 20 points in AASU's 66-63 win on Saturday, including a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining that snapped a 63-all tie and gave the No. 24-ranked Pirates their 13th consecutive victory. Campbell also recorded four steals on the evening, putting the Hinesville, Ga., native in second place all-time in NCAA Division II history with 334 steals. The 1999-2000 PBC Player of the Year, Campbell trails Oronn Brown of Clarion by 27 for the all-time lead in NCAA Division II. In two games on the week, Campbell averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots.

The honor is the second for Campbell this season and third in his career. Campbell was also the conference's player of the week back on Jan. 8. Currently, Campbell leads the Pirates and ranks seventh in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game, and leads the PBC and ranks fourth in NCAA Division II in steals with 3.6 per game. He also ranks second in the conference in assists per game, averaging 5.6.

The Pirates next host Clayton College & State on Wed., Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
