AASU's Brinkmeier Named PBC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior pitcher B.J. Brinkmeier was named the Peach Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week by conference officials on Tuesday.
Brinkmeier hurled two shutouts last week in 2001 Savannah Invitational action. The righthander from St. Charles, Mo., blanked South Dakota State, 13-0, on March 6, firing a two-hitter and striking out 10 batters. On Sunday, Brinkmeier hurled a three-hit shutout of No. 25-ranked Quincy, striking out a career-high 14 batters, to improve to 4-1 on the season.
So far this season, Brinkmeier has struck out 65 batters in 53 1/3 innings pitched and has a 1.86 ERA in eight starts.
Brinkmeier is the first AASU player to earn Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Freshman Ryan Chromek was named PBC Player of the Week back on February 13, 2001.
