AASU's Tesh Wiewel Named PBC Softball Player of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior second baseman Tesh Wiewel was named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week today by conference officials.
Wiewel hit .438 on the week (7-for-16) with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI as the No. 15-ranked Pirates went 6-0, running their winning streak to 12 straight games. Wiewel's bases-loaded double in the second inning gave the Pirates a 2-1 win over No. 10 Alabama-Huntsville in the KSU Owl Invitational and the El Centro, Calif., native had a two-RBI triple in the Pirates' 3-1 win over No. 14-ranked St. Mary's (Texas), also in the tournament. The 2000 All-PBC and All-South Atlantic Region player also was errorless at second base and executed four sacrifice hits.
The honor is the first for Wiewel and also first for an AASU softball player this season. Last year, the Pirates had four players earn Player of the Week honors and three times had the conference's Pitcher of the Week.
The Pirates are next in action this weekend as they travel to Augusta State and USC Aiken for Peach Belt Conference action on Sat., March 31 and Sun., April 1 at 2:00 p.m. each day.
