AASU's Annie Sells Named PBC Softball Pitcher of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior pitcher Annie Sells was named the Peach Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week today by conference officials.

Sells, the 2000 PBC Player of the Year, went 3-0 with one save and an 0.30 ERA in four games as the Pirates went 5-1 on the week. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native allowed just 15 hits and struck out 22 batters in 23.2 innings, including complete-game shutouts of UNC Pembroke and No. 13 Columbus State. Sells helped out her own cause at the plate as well, hitting .476 and slugging 1.095 with four home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored on the week.

The honor is the first for Sells this season and also first for an AASU softball player this season. The Pirates have had one PBC Player of the Week this season – senior second baseman Tesh Wiewel on March 27.

The Pirates host USC Spartanburg on Wednesday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. in AASU's final home games of the season. Six AASU seniors will be honored in a ceremony following the doubleheader.
