AASU's Burton, Anderson Named PBC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (September 11) – Sophomore Kristin Burton and freshman Alyssa Anderson have been named the Peach Belt Conference women's soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively, announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon.

The reigning PBC Player of the Year, Burton had a big week, scoring her second career hat trick against fourth-ranked Carson-Newman and adding another goal against Catawba in a 2-0 win. Those two wins propelled AASU into 16th in the latest top-25 poll, the first time the team has ever been nationally ranked. She scored the
three goals against Carson-Newman all in the first 18 minutes of the match and got her
four goals on only nine shots. Burton is currently tied for first in the PBC with six goals, 12 points and three game-winning goals this season.

Anderson, meanwhile, anchored an AASU defense that allowed just one goal in the two region wins over Carson-Newman and Catawba. She played a full 90 minutes in AASU’s shutout win over the Indians and played 76 minutes against an Eagles squad that was averaging 3.5 goals per game and limited Carson-Newman to just one goal. Anderson is a freshman central defender who has started all four matches this season for AASU, playing 74 minutes or more in each match.

The Player of the Week honor is the first this season for Burton and the fourth for her career, while Anderson become the first AASU player to earn league defensive Player of the Week honors, which the Peach Belt began awarding this season.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, September 15, as the Pirates open up PBC play against Clayton State at 3:30 p.m.
