Rafael Array Named PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week For Second Time

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 31) – Freshman Rafael Array was named the Peach Belt Conference's men's tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, announced by conference officials.

Array helped the top-ranked Pirates capture the Blue-Gray Classic championship in Montgomery, Ala., this week, going a perfect 3-0 in singles and doubles play. He defeated NAIA No. 41-ranked Eddie Khan, 6-4, 6-1, of Lindsey Wilson, then beat Luiz Bernardi of West Florida, 6-3, 6-0. Array also knocked off NAIA No. 4-ranked Timothy Mudrick of Auburn-Montgomery, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, he teamed with Tim Johannsen at the No. 1 spot and beat Luciani and Khan of No. 5 (NAIA) Lindsey Wilson, 8-6. Also beat the duo of Arboleda and Cavasotti of No. 4 West Florida, 8-3 and knocked off Miskovic and Tucker of top-ranked (NAIA) Auburn-Montgomery, 8-5. Array has won nine straight singles matches, with eight of those coming in matches against nationally-ranked opponents.

This is Array's second PBC Player of the Week honor this season, as the native of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, was also named the league's Player of the Week on March.

Array and the No. 1-ranked Pirates are next in action on Wednesday, April 9, as they visit Barry University for a 2:00 p.m. match in Miami Shores, Fla.
