Iuliia Stupak Named PBC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 12) Senior Iuliia Stupak was named the Peach Belt Conference's first women's tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, announced by conference officials.
The reigning PBC Player of the Year dropped just six games in beginning the 2008 dual match season with a 4-0 mark in singles and a 4-0 mark in doubles. Stupak defeated Nova Southeastern’s No. 40-ranked Alexa Korotkevich, 6-1, 6-1; blanked Augusta State’s No. 39-ranked Nathalia Rodrigues, 6-0, 6-0. The Kiev, Ukraine, native then teamed with Gabriella Kovacs to defeat No. 9 duo of Korotkevich and Talalenko of Nova Southeastern, 8-2, in doubles.
Stupak stretched her consecutive dual match win streak to 39 matches, dating back to 2006, and helped the Lady Pirates extend their regular season match win streak to 94, dating back to 2003.
This is the fourth time that Stupak has earned PBC Player of the Week honors in her career. Stupak and the Pirates are in action this afternoon at USC Aiken in a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match in Aiken, S.C.
