Alida Muller-Wehlau Named PBC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 18) – Freshman Alida Muller-Wehlau has been named the Peach Belt Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, announced by conference officials.

The No. 7-ranked singles player in Division II, Muller-Wehlau went 5-0 in singles as the Lady Pirates continued their perfect start to the 2008 season. She began the week with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Clayton State's No. 47-ranked Julia Chergova in AASU's 9-0 win over the Lakers, then followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 5 California (Pa.)'s Olga Alekseeva.

Muller-Wehlau did not drop a game in defeating Kutztown's Sabrina Arnaud and North Georgia's Katherine Harrison, 6-0, 6-0 and capped the week with a 6-4, 6-0 win over No. 21 (NAIA) Hana Im of Embry-Riddle. Also ranked No. 15 in doubles, she eamed with Martina Beckmann to go 5-0 on the week, including an 8-1 win over No. 10 (NAIA) Anaya and Kurtz of Embry-Riddle. Muller-Wehlau has won nine straight singles matches and 15 straight doubles matches this season.

This is the first time that Muller-Wehlau has earned PBC Player of the Week honors in her career. The No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates will return to action on March 27-29 at the Small College Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
