Golopencza, Kratochvilova Earn 2001 ITA All-American Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Freshman Zsofi Golopencza and junior Michaela Kratochvilova have earned Division II All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in both singles and doubles, according to the final WingspanBank.com Division II rankings released yesterday by the ITA.

Golopencza, the ITA's national Freshman of the Year, finished her debut season for the Lady Pirates ranked No. 2 in the nation in singles and teamed with Kratochvilova to rank No. 3 in the nation in doubles. Kratochvilova finished the season ranked No. 9 in the nation in singles. Players who rank in the top 20 in singles and top 10 in doubles earn All-America honors from the ITA.

Kratochvilova earns ITA All-America honors for the second straight year. Golopencza - who was also the Peach Belt Conference's Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year - compiled a 25-2 dual match singles record and an overall 35-3 singles record for the year.

The Lady Pirates (22-6) advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the seventh straight year and finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation. The AASU men's team (15-10) finished the year ranked No. 15 in the nation and had two players in the final singles rankings - seniors Stefan Wirtz (No. 25) and Blaise Tribolet (No. 39). Tribolet teamed with senior Christopher Petersen to finish ranked No. 19 in the nation in doubles.
