AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State freshman Amy Dumas nearly tossed a no-hitter in her collegiate debut Thursday afternoon, allowing just a single hit while leading the Jaguars to a 2-0 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State. The contest marked the season opener for ASU.

Armstrong rallied in the second game to earn a split of the doubleheader, scoring four times in the top of the ninth for a 6-2 victory.

Dumas was one strike away from the no-hitter when AASU's Amanda Kort broke it up with two outs in the top of the seventh. Dumas, Tiffany Pate and Michelle Weirauch had two hits each to pace the Jags' 10-hit attack. Pate and Jessica Matt tallied the only runs for ASU, with Anna Tedder and Leigh Schneider driving in the runs.

ASU junior Christine Gisler took the loss in the second game, allowing 13 hits and all six runs in eight-plus innings of work. She struck out four and didn't walk a batter. The Pirates scored two runs in the fourth before the Jags battled back with single runs in the fourth and fifth.

Armstrong's Jeana Short lined a three-run double down the leftfield line in the top of the ninth to break the game open for the visitors. Adrian Tuttle earned the win in relief, striking out a pair while walking one in 1.2 innings of work.
