AASU's Ashley Bain Named PBC Softball Player of the Week
SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 12) Junior shortstop Ashley Bain has been named the Peach Belt Conference's first softball Player of the Week for 2008, announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Bain helped the Pirates open the 2008 season with a 6-2 record by hitting .464 and slugging .893 with three triples, two home runs and 14 RBI in eight games. The All-PBC infielder went 5-for-8 with a triple, a home run and four RBI in AASU’s PBC sweep of Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, February 9.
Bain also went 3-for-4 with six RBI in AASU’s win over cross-town rival Savannah State at the Claflin Invitational back on February 1. The Cleveland, Tenn., native leads the PBC in RBI with 14 and in total bases with 25 through the first two weeks of the season.
She earns league player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. A career .355 hitter for the Pirates, Bain is the first AASU player to earn Player of the Week honors since Amber Hunt was honored on April 10, 2006.
Bain and the Pirates return to action on Thursday, February 14, as AASU visits Lander for a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt doubleheader.
