College Softball: No. 9 AASU 1-10, Edinboro 0-0
SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 9-ranked Pirate softball team continued its shutout streak by blanking Edinboro twice on Tuesday afternoon, 1-0 and 10-0, in college softball action on Tuesday afternoon at the Pirate Softball Field.
The Pirates (13-2) got a three-hit shutout from junior Katya Eronina in game one as the Pirates edged the Fighting Scots (2-6), 1-0. Eronina struck out nine and did not walk a batter in improving to 7-1 on the season. Junior Kissy Stepanova drove in freshman Abby Hodge with an RBI double in the first inning for the only run of the contest.
In the second game, the Pirates pounced on Edinboro starter Kim Fleissner for seven runs in the first inning. AASU sent 12 batters to the plate and collected four hits and three bases-loaded walks in the frame. Stepanova then followed in the second inning with her second home run of the season and the Pirates cruised to the 10-0 victory. Senior Delaney Warrian spun a one-hit shutout, striking out six, to improve to 6-1 on the year.
The Pirates have now won their last six contests by shutout, a streak of 38 consecutive shutout innings pitched.
The Pirates will be next in action on Wednesday, March 12, as they travel to Augusta State for their Peach Belt Conference opener at 2:00 p.m.
