College Softball: No. 13 AASU 4-2, Edinboro 0-1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 13-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad swept a doubleheader from Edinboro University, 4-0 and 2-1, in the Lady Pirates' 2002 home opener at Pirate Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior righthander Annie Sells, the Peach Belt Conference's reigning two-time Pitcher of the Week, improved to 5-1 on the season by hurling a one-hit shutout of the Fighting Scots, striking out 14 in the 4-0 victory. Sophomore Diana Corwin provided the offense with a two-run home run in support of Sells, her first of the season, while Sells also collected two hits herself. Jo Kennedy (0-4) took the loss for Edinboro, giving up eight hits and four runs - two earned - in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

In the nightcap, junior Delaney Warrian (1-0) picked up her first victory of the season for the Lady Pirates (9-1) by hurling a two-hitter, striking out seven and giving up just one unearned run. Sophomore Stacey Richardson cranked a solo home run, her first of the year, in support of Warrian, while Corwin picked up two hits in the second game for the Lady Pirates. Edinboro (4-5) starter Jennifer Nimelli (4-0) was the hard-luck loser, giving up five hits and two runs - one earned - in six innings to take the loss, her first of the season.

The Lady Pirates open their Peach Belt Conference schedule on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. as they host USC Aiken at Pirate Field.
