SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad closed out action in the USC Upstate Fastpitch Classic on Saturday by winning two of three games in Spartanburg.

The Pirates (20-7) suffered a 6-0 loss to Newberry in the first game of the day, but rebounded to knock off Tusculum, 3-1, in their second game. Courtney Tucker picked up the win for the Lady Pirates, improving to 5-0 on the season.

In the final game, the Pirates used scored 10 runs with two out in the fourth inning to blow out Queens (N.C.), 13-1. Nicole Huddleston launched a grand-slam home run and Jessica Waters hit a two-run shot in the fourth, while Vanessa Becerra and Kari Marsico added solo home runs in the victory. Huddleston went the distance in the circle for the win, also improving to 4-0 on the year.

The Pirates return to action on Tuesday as they visit PBC foe Augusta State for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
