College Softball: AASU 11-5, Augusta State 3-4

AUGUSTA, Ga. The Augusta State Jaguars dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga. The Jags fall to 19-13 overall and 4-6 in the PBC, while the Pirates improve to 22-7 and 8-2 in the league.
ASU was only down by one, 4-3, going into the top of the fifth of the first game. AASU scored seven runs on three hits and two ASU errors. The Jags were not able to put any hits together ending the game in the fifth inning, 11-3.
Jessica Waters got the win for the Pirates giving up three runs on four hits. Amy Dumas received the loss for the Jags.
The second game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Tori Richter hit a ball through the right side scoring Ashley Bain, and then Amanda Vickers hit a sac-fly to left field plating Jaclyn Parlo, making AASU up 2-0.
ASU didn't score their first run until the bottom of the sixth when Leigh Robbins had a sac-fly scoring pinch-runner Christina Morrison. The Pirates scored three more runs, and in the bottom of the seventh ASU almost came back with a three-run homer by senior Paige Phillips, but ended up short making the final score 5-4.
Courtney Tucker picked up the win for AASU making her 6-0 on the year.
Jacklyn Benenhaley took the loss for ASU and Courtney Tucker posted the Brooke Henson was 2-for-3 for the Jags, while Phillips, Anna Tedder and Brooke Southerland went 2-for-4. For the Pirates, Amanda Vickers led the team offensively hitting 3-for-6 and Kari Marsico was 3-for-7.
The Jags are back in action Saturday, March 24, hosting a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the UNC Pembroke Braves. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
