College Softball: No. 15 Armstrong Atlantic State 4-4, Kutztown 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 15-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates swept a non-conference doubleheader from Kutztown University, 4-3 and 4-0, in college softball action at Pirate Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates (15-3) used a sacrifice fly from junior Mary Morris to score junior Diana Julian from third base in the bottom of the seventh inning to give AASU the 4-3 win in game number one. Junior Annie Sells (7-2) pitched the complete-game victory for the Pirates, giving up just two hits and striking out 15, but the PBC Player of the Year endured a wild afternoon, walking eight, hitting two batters and tossing five wild pitches. Junior Nicole Weirauch had two RBI singles for AASU, while Kutztown's Kellie Evans (5-3) gave up nine hits and four runs – two earned – in 6 2/3 innings pitched to take the loss.

In game two, senior Julie King (8-1) kept the Golden Bears off-balance all game long, yielding just two hits and walking none while striking out six for her sixth shutout of the season. Four AASU players had two hits in the second game, led by Sells' two hits and two RBI. Danielle Follosco (3-1) took the loss for Kutztown, giving up nine hits and all four runs in four innings pitched.

The Pirates next travel to Kennesaw, Ga., for action in the 2001 KSU Owl Invitational beginning on Friday, March 23. AASU faces No. 14-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) and Longwood on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
