College Softball: Augusta State 3-2, No. 7 Armstrong Atlantic State 2-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. Augusta State Universitys womens softball team swept a doubleheader from 7th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field. The Lady Jaguars won game one 3-2 and then took the nightcap 2-1 in a nine-inning thriller.
The sweep improves ASUs overall record to 15-14-1 on the season and 5-5 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Pirates fall to 19-5 overall and 2-2 in the PBC. The two wins by ASU also snapped Armstrongs 12-game winning streak heading into the doubleheader.
In game one, ASU scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Lady Pirates. AASU bounced back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but was unable to score the remainder of the game.
ASU managed only four hits on the game, while Armstrong Atlantic had nine overall. Erin Cown improved to 7-6 on the season with the victory, while AASUs Annie Sells fell to 9-3.
In game two, Augusta State scored in the bottom of the seventh to notch the score at 1-1 and send the game into extra innings. ASU then scored the gamewinner in the bottom of the ninth inning when sophomore Jenny Davis single drove in Ashlee Bell.
Traci Miller 96-4) picked up the win for head coach Melissa Mullins squad, while Lady Pirate Julie King (10-2) was credited with the loss.
The Lady Jaguars will be in action again April 5th as they travel to Newberry for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Lady Pirates take the field again tomorrow at USC Aiken, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
