College Softball: No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic State 7-6, Lander 1-1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State softball team swept a doubleheader from Peach Belt Conference foe Lander, 7-1 and 6-1, in both teams' conference opener at Pirate Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pirates (7-1, 2-0 PBC) struck early in game one with a single run in the first inning, then three runs in the second. Junior Annie Sells picked up the win, hurling four innings of no-hit ball and striking out eight. Ashley Tomlinson was tagged with the loss, giving up 11 hits and seven runs in six innings.

In game two, senior Julie King entered the game for AASU with the score tied at one-all and limited the Senators to one hit and no runs over four innings to pick up her fourth win of the season. AASU tagged Lander starter Sarah Permenter with just her second loss in 12 decisions as she gave up nine hits and six runs, four earned, in six innings of work.

Offensively, the Pirates were led in the doubleheader by senior second baseman Tesh Wiewel, who went 5-for-8 with four RBI, including two doubles. Senior shortstop Ansley Paschal went 4-for-6 with four runs scored for AASU. Lander managed just four hits total between the two games.

The Pirates are next in action in Hawaii as they fly across the Pacific for a series of games against schools in the island state. AASU's first action comes on Sunday, March 11 against Hawaii-Pacific at Noon, Hawaii time.
