SAVANNAH, Ga. – Deanna Beaty's grand slam home run sparked the Armstrong Atlantic softball squad to two wins at the 2005 SCAD Smash Hit Spring Break classic at the Paulson Complex on Monday evening. AASU defeated Quincy, 10-2, in the first game, then pounded Bluefield State, 15-4, in the nightcap.

Beaty's home run capped a five-run fifth inning that erased a 4-1 Bluefield State lead in the second game, then the Pirates (11-7) busted out for nine runs in the top of the seventh for the victory. Adrian Tuttle (3-1) pitched a complete-game victory, giving up 10 hits and four runs - two earned - while striking out seven, and also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run.

In the first game, the Pirates pounded out 11 hits and 10 runs in defeating the Hawks, 10-2. Carrie Broome had three hits and three runs scored, while Jeanna Short had two hits, including a two-run home run. Heather Woods improved to 5-2 on the season by allowing just three hits and two unearned runs in five innings pitched.

AASU returns to action on Wednesday as the Pirates host Lander at 1:00 p.m. in Peach Belt Conference action.
