Annie Sells Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA DII Player of the Week Again
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior pitcher/designated player Annie Sells was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association on Wednesday afternoon, the second time the No. 6-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State ace has been recognized nationally with Player of the Week honors this season.
Sells, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., posted a 4-0 record last week with three shutouts, including her 13th career no-hitter against Lander. She struck out 10 in the no-hitter, also recorded 10 strikeouts in a one-hitter against USC Aiken and notched her 46th career shutout in a 6-0 win over No. 23-ranked USC Spartanburg. Sells allowed just four hits in 18 innings pitched and posted an 0.39 earned run average in four games.
At the plate, Sells hit .600 (9-for-15) and belted her 38th career home run against Augusta State, tying her for 18th on the NCAA Division II all-time home run list.
Armstrong Atlantic State wraps up its regular season schedule this afternoon with a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Georgia College & State University. The Pirates will be in action this weekend in Greenwood, S.C., at the Peach Belt Conference Championships from Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21.
