AIKEN, S.C. – Lander built a 7-0 lead on
the Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad and held on for a 7-3
victory on the final day of the2006 Peach Belt Tournament, eliminating the Pirates. AASU finished the tournament with a 3-2 record.

2006 Peach Belt Conference Championships: Lander 7, AASU 3
AIKEN, S.C. – Lander built a 7-0 lead on
the Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad and held on for a 7-3
victory on the final day of the
2006 Peach Belt Tournament, eliminating the Pirates. AASU
finished the tournament with a 3-2 record.
The Pirates (37-25) got a three-run home run from Veronica Castro in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 7-3, but Lander reliever Austin Murray went came in and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out three, to pick up the save and preserve the win.
AASU managed just three hits in the contest as Lander's Ashlea Burdette went 5 1/3 innings for the victory. Heather Woods took the loss as all four Pirate pitchers saw action in the contest.
The Pirates will now await word of a possible at-large berth to the NCAA regionals, which will be announced next week.
