College Softball: No. 7 AASU 3-8, Georgia Southwestern 0-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior Nicole Weirauch's two home runs keyed an 8-0 win in the second game and a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southwestern in college softball action at Pirate Field on Sunday afternoon. AASU won the first game, 3-0.

The Pirates (23-9) took the first game over the Hurricanes as junior Annie Sells shut down Georgia Southwestern with a three-hit shutout that included 14 strikeouts. AASU scored once in the first and twice in the second inning to come up with the 3-0 win. Katrina Beach took the loss for the Hurricanes, giving up three runs – two earned – and six hits in six innings pitched.

In the second game, the Pirates broke out of a power slump with three home runs – two by Weirauch and one by Sells – to take the 8-0 victory. Weirauch hit a two-run shot to right field in the second inning, then added a three-run shot to left center in the third inning. Julie King (12-4) hurled a three-hit shutout, striking out four, to pick up the win while Kristan Arnold gave up six runs and seven hits in three innings to take the loss for the Hurricanes.

The Pirates next travel to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, April 10 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Braves.
