Annie Sells, Breon Michel Earn NFCA All-South Atlantic Region Honors
SAVANNAH, Ga. Juniors Annie Sells and Breon Michel, two members of the No. 22-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State softball team, were named to the All-South Atlantic Region team by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) at the South Atlantic Region tournament.
Sells, the 2000 PBC Player of the Year, was named to the All-Region squad for the third season in a row as the Chattanooga, Tenn., native compiled an 18-6 record with a 1.69 ERA this season with 91 hits and 187 strikeouts in 153.1 innings pitched. She currently ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in strikeouts per seven innings, averaging 8.7, and as a first-team All-Region honoree, her name will be forwarded for possible All-America honors. Sells was a second-team NFCA All-America pitcher for the Pirates in 2000.
Michel, in her first season as a Pirate after transferring to AASU from Indian Hills CC, hit .333 with 10 doubles and 13 RBI in 2001. A Tiffin, Iowa, native, Michel compiled a 16-game hitting streak earlier this season, the longest for the Pirates. She was named to the All-Region second team as an outfielder.
The Pirates finished the 2001 season - just their fourth season of existence - with a 33-14 overall mark and a No. 5 South Atlantic Region ranking, missing the NCAA Championships by one spot.
