AASU Softball Ends Season With No. 8 Ranking

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The AASU softball squad, which advanced to the NCAA South Atlantic Regional championship game, finished the season ranked No. 8 in the final NFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 poll released today.

AASU finished the season with a 51-7 record and ascended to the top spot in the NFCA rankings on April 26, the first-ever No. 1 ranking for the softball squad. Led by NCAA Division II second-team All-America pitcher Annie Sells, the Lady Pirates earned their first PBAC championship and NCAA regional berth in just their third season of competition.

During the season, the Lady Pirates compiled a 10-4 mark against teams ranked in the final Top 25, including four wins over No. 2 and national runner-up Kennesaw State and three wins over No. 14 North Florida. AASU hurled a school- and PBAC-record 34 shutouts during the season and hit .336 as a team with 44 home runs and 333 RBI.
