AASU Softball Earns Seventh NCAA Regionals Bid

SAVANNAH, Ga. (May 4) – The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad has earned an at-large berth to the 2008 NCAA DII Softball Championships, announced today by the NCAA. The Pirates will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Regional.

The bid is the third straight for head coach Ted Evans and the Pirates (27-21) and the seventh in the last nine seasons. Last year, the Pirates advanced to the South Atlantic Region final, while in 2006, AASU finished third in the eight-team regional.

AASU will face second-seeded and host UNC Pembroke (44-12) on Wednesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the final game of the first day of the regional. During the regular season, AASU and UNC Pembroke split their doubleheader matchup as the Pirates were the only team in the Peach Belt to hand the Braves a league loss.

The winner of the South Atlantic Regional advances to the 2008 NCAA DII Softball National Championships in Houston, Texas, on May 14-17 as a part of the DII Spring Sports Festival. (2008 South Atlantic Regional Site)
