Golopencza Captures ITA Southeast Region Singles Title

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State sophomore Zsofi Golopencza cruised to the 2001 ITA Women's Tennis Southeast Regional singles title on Tuesday afternoon, defeating freshman AASU teammate Annamaria Forgacs, 6-1, 6-2.

The top-seeded Golopencza only dropped three games in the entire tournament - all in the final match. The 2000 ITA National Freshman of the Year in Division II, Golopencza will now travel to Dallas, Texas, on October 19-21 to compete in the ITA Small College National Championships. Golopencza will represent AASU in both the singles and doubles brackets - she captured the ITA Southeast Region doubles title yesterday with teammate Michaela Kratochvilova.

Golopencza is AASU's first region ITA singles winner since Maren Muller captured the 1999 Southeast Regional.

Armstrong Atlantic State will next host the men's ITA Southeast Regional this weekend beginning on Friday, October 5 and continuing through Monday, October 8.
