VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic men's tennis team came achingly close to an upset of top-ranked and defending DII national champion West Florida on Saturday, falling to the Argonauts, 5-4. The top-ranked AASU women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over No. 4-ranked West Florida late Friday.

The No. 2-ranked Pirates picked up two of three doubles wins against the Argonauts, but could only manage two singles wins - at the top two singles positions as No. 15-ranked Davor Zink knocked off No. 2-ranked Diego Zorzi, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Paul Bishop defeated Alberto Torchia, 6-1, 6-4, for the Pirates as well.

The defending DII national champion Lady Pirates dropped their first point of the season in the win over West Florida, but were never in danger of dropping the match as AASU won all three doubles matches, then picked up five singles wins. No. 6-ranked Luisa Cowper defeated No. 3-ranked Suzanna Cavalcante, 4-6, 6-1, (10-4) in a matchup of top 10-ranked singles players at No. 1 singles, while Iuliia Stupak defeated Tammy Kevey, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.

The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, March 1, as AASU plays a rain makeup dual match with GC&SU in Milledgeville, Ga..
