SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis squads split a dual match with West Florida on Saturday morning at the AASU Tennis Complex.

The No. 11-ranked Pirates were looking for the upset over No. 1-ranked and defending DII national champion West Florida, but the top-ranked doubles duo of Robert Jendelund and Dale White couldn’t hold a 7-4 lead at No. 1 doubles over Paulius Jurkenas and Mario Vergara, dropping a 9-7 decision. AASU did get a doubles point from Taavo Roos and Jeremy Mastnak, as they knocked off Nicolas Barrientos and Mark McGuigan, 8-1.

AASU then could only pick up two singles wins as the Pirates lost three singles matches in three sets. Dale White defated German Delmagro, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, and Mastnak defeated McGuigan, 6-4, 7-6 (4), at No. 5 singles, but AASU could not come up with any more points.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates remained perfect on the season with a 7-2 win over the No. 3-ranked UWF Lady Argonauts. AASU won two of three doubles matches, then picked up five singles wins, led by Luisa Cowper’s 6-3, 6-0 win over Nicole Plikat at No. 1 singles.

The Lady Pirates are next in action on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. against Rollins College.
