AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis opened the 2006 dual match season by sweeping Augusta State on Saturday afternoon at the Newnan Tennis Center in Augusta, Ga.

The No. 2-ranked Pirates won two of three doubles matches, then picked up five singles wins for the season-opening victory. No. 15-ranked Davor Zink knocked off Lindy Blount, 6-3, 7-6, at the top signles position to pace AASU, while Robert Jendelund, Paul Bishop, Taavo Roos and Kevin Sijmons also picked up singles wins.

The defending DII national champion Lady Pirates breezed past Augusta State in their first match of the season, blanking the Lady Jaguars and not dropping a set. No. 6-ranked Luisa Cowper defeated Nathalia Rodrigues, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Johanna Dahlback, Manuela Emmrich, Caroline Grage, Sofia Haggstrom and Kristen Kelly also picked up singles wins.

The Pirates return to action on Sunday when they play at USC Aiken in a PBC dual match at 11:00 a.m.
