Women's Tennis: No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State 5, No. 1 Lynn 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis squad upset the top-ranked and NCAA Division II defending champion Lynn University Lady Knights, 5-1, on Friday afternoon at the AASU Tennis Complex.

The Lady Pirates won two out of three doubles matches, then won three singles matches to clinch the victory, the third this season for the Lady Pirates over a squad ranked in the Top 5 in the country. In a battle of the top two ranked Division II singles players in the country, sophomore Zsofi Golopencza, ranked No. 1, defeated No. 2-ranked Monika Mastalirova, 6-3, 6-2, at the top singles flight.

No. 17-ranked Annamaria Forgacs also picked up a singles win, 6-3, 6-2, over Masha Bajramovic at No. 3 singles. Laura Peaty defeated Maria Alves, 6-2, 6-3, at No.4 singles and the other singles matches were halted because AASU had clinched the victory.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Sunday, March 3 as they host UNC Pembroke and Valdosta State in doubleheader action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
