BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis squads split a dual match at Lynn University on Sunday in Boca Raton, ending the Pirates' three-game spring break road swing. The AASU men dropped their fourth straight match, 5-4, to Lynn, while the AASU women picked up an 8-1 victory.

AASU took two of three doubles matches, winning 9-7 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but could only pick up two singles wins. Peter Dedik made quick work of Regnier Azevedo, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, and David Secker knocked off Dennis Verduin, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 singles, but AASU lost two three-set matches, including a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 loss by Jeremy Mastnak at No. 5 singles against Dennis Riegraf when the match was tied, 4-4.

The Lady Pirates got an early 2-0 lead as Lynn had to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles because Amy Hepburn was not able to play in the match. AASU then got a big doubles win as Luisa Cowper and Laura Peaty, ranked No. 3 in the country, blanked No. 4-ranked Victoria Weltz and Andrea Kostricova, 8-0, at the top doubles spot. Manuela Emmrich and Caroline Grage also won, defeating Dina Bajramovic and Marie Maussion, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. Cowper then had an easy time with Weltz at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2. Dziyana Nazaruk, Johanna Dahlback, Emmrich and Peaty also picked up singles wins for the Lady Pirates.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, March 26, as the Lady Pirates host Clayton College & State at 2:00 p.m., while the men host Lander, also at 2:00 p.m.
