Women's Tennis: AASU 7, Davidson 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II, defeated Division I Davidson on Sunday afternoon at the Pirate Tennis Complex, 7-2.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates improved to 6-0 on the season with the victory. Junior Zsofi Golopencza defeated Davidson's Kelly Fillnow, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to pace the Lady Pirates, while junior Laura Peaty had to go three sets to defeat Meggie Patterson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Caroline Grage and Gemma Vaughan also picked up singles wins for the Pirates.

In doubles, the Pirates swept all three matches. Golopencza and Emmrich teamed to beat Kelly and Meghan Fillnow, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Grage and Peaty knocked off Patterson and Lindsey Powel, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, while Alejandra Aguilar and Gemma Vaughan defeated Katherine Hatch and Sarah Borkowski, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates are next in action on Tuesday, March 4, as they play an Atlanta-area doubleheader against Clayton College & State and Kennesaw State.
