Women's Tennis: No. 3 Barry 7, No. 7 AASU 2

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Barry University women’s tennis team improved their record to an impressive 17-1 Saturday afternoon, downing Armstrong Atlantic 7-2 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Bucs got the morning off to a good start, taking all three double matches including an 8-6 victory by Cornelia Grunes and Gizella Turbok over Armstrong Atlantic’s Manuela Emmrich and Zsofi Golopencza at the #1 slot. Buccaneers Victoria Grumes and Maria Lopez were also victorious by the score of 8-6 at #2 as were Greta Trotman and Valeria Papandrea at #3.

Grunes was equally impressive in singles play defeating Armstrong Atlantic's Emmrich in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 as the Bucs took four of the six matches. Also recording points for the Bucs were Turbok, Trotman and Papandrea.

The Bucs will be off until April 3-6 when they compete in the annual West Florida Tournament in Pensacola. Match times are to be announced.
