Men's Tennis: No. 9 Lander 9, No. 16 AASU 0

GREENWOOD, S.C. – No. 9-ranked Lander University won five of six singles matches in three sets to blank the No. 16-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates, 9-0, in Peach Belt Conference men's tennis action in Greenwood, S.C., on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates dropped all three doubles matches to fall behind, 3-0, despite leading the top two doubles matches by 6-3 scores. Achim Roth and Dale White, ranked No. 5 in DII, lost to Flygt and Steckley, ranked No. 8, 9-8 (5). Peter Dedik and Tim Offermann lost to Edstrom and Borg, 9-7, while Roger Thiele and David Secker lost to Legros and Erlandsson, 8-5.

In singles, the Pirates took first sets in three of the six singles matches and pushed five of six to three sets but couldn't pick up a win. No. 20 Achim Roth lost in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to No. 4-ranked Rob Steckley at No. 1 singles. No. 41 Peter Dedik lost to Stefan Borg, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Erik Flygt lost the first set to AASU's Roger Thiele, 6-3, but won tiebreakers in the second and third sets to win. Dale White had to default in the third set 3-all because of dehydration.

The Pirates return to action on Wednedsay, March 31, when they host PBC-leading and No. 4-ranked North Florida at 2:00 p.m.
