SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis squads remained unbeaten in the 2006 Peach Belt Conference campaign with a dual match win over visiting USC Upstate on Saturday in Savannah. The top-ranked women blanked the No. 11-ranked Spartans, 9-0, while the No. 2-ranked Pirate men edged the No. 7-ranked Spartans, 5-4.

The Pirate men had their hands full with the Spartans, especially after falling behind 2-1 in doubles, but AASU picked up four straight set singles wins to clinch the match. Davor Zink, ranked No. 15 in singles, upset No. 8-ranked Diego Sist, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 1 singles, while Paul Bishop handled No. 10-ranked Stefan Dumitrescu, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Taavo Roos knocked off Leandro Osorio, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles and David Secker defeated Grocio Prado, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.

The defending DII national champion Lady Pirates had an easier time with No. 11-ranked USC Upstate, winning all three doubles matches and then sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. Iuliia Stupak defeated Anna Novo, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Caroline Grage breezed past Vivian Neuesnchwander, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles to pace AASU.

The Lady Pirates are next in action on Sunday, March 4, as they host UNC Pembroke and Brenau for two matches beginning at 10:00 a.m.
