PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis squads opened up action in the 2005 White Sands Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., with wins on late Friday evening.

The No. 13-ranked Pirates edged No. 11-ranked Ouachita Baptist, 5-4. AASU picked up just one doubles win as Robert Jendelund and Dale White defeated Vagen Akapian and Emelien Rabin, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, but the Pirates won at the top four singles spots to clinch the victory.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates blanked No. 34-ranked St. Edward's, 6-0. Bad weather forced the two teams to play the singles matches first, and after AASU swept all six singles matches, the two teams elected not to makeup the doubles.

AASU continues action in the White Sands Invitational on Saturday as both teams face Delta State at Noon.
