SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State tennis squads swept a non-conference dual match from North Greenville College on Saturday afternoon, with the women taking a 9-0 win and the men winning its second straight match, 8-1 over the Crusaders.

The No. 5-ranked Lady Pirates improved to 16-5 on the season with the blanking of North Greenville, who played with just five players in the match. Manuela Emmrich, playing No. 1 singles, defeated Teresita Mariani, 6-2, 6-2, while Gemma Vaughan defeated Izle Rozetale at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. The other three singles matches all were won by the Lady Pirates at 6-0, 6-0 – Laura Peaty at No. 2 singles, Caroline Grage at No. 3 singles and Alejandra Aguilar at No. 5 singles.

The No. 12-ranked Pirates inched back to .500 overall with the win and now stand at 9-9 on the season. AASU swept all three doubles matches, then picked up five of six singles wins. Dale White picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Derek Drews, while Achim Roth won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles over Keith Powell. David Secker, Tim Offermann and Neil Murray also picked up singles wins for the Pirates.

The Pirates close out the 2003 regular season on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. match at Columbus State in Peach Belt Conference action.
