SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Both AASU men's and women's tennis teams opened play in the 2004 Peach Belt Conference Championships with first-round wins on Thursday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.

The top-seeded and second-ranked AASU women's tennis team blanked eighth-seeded Augusta State, 5-0. AASU swept all three doubles matches, then got singles wins from Caroline Grage and Manuela Emmrich to clinch the match.

The No. 5-seeded AASU men avenged a 5-4 regular season loss to Columbus State by knocking off the No. 4-seeded Cougars, 5-2. AASU won two of three doubles matches, then picked up singles wins from David Secker, Dale White and Roger Thiele.

The AASU men and women both face North Florida in the PBC Semifinals on Friday.
