AASU's Golopencza Earns Third PBC Tennis Player of the Week Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State sophomore women's tennis player Zsofi Golopencza was named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon for the third time this season.

Golopencza, the top-ranked singles player in Division II and part of the No. 4-ranked doubles duo in the nation, went 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles as the No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates competed at the White Sands Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. The Budapest, Hungary, native defeated No. 7-ranked Victoria Domina of Ouachita Baptist, 6-1, 7-5, and also knocked off No. 35-ranked Yolandie Beukes of Delta State, 6-3, 6-0, in her singles matches.

In doubles action, Golopencza teamed with Michaela Kratochvilova to register wins over the top two-ranked doubles duos in NCAA Division II, defeating top-ranked Victoria Domina and Inga Ziemina of Ouachita Baptist, 8-2, and No. 2-ranked Petra Gaspar and Tagifano Taosoga of BYU Hawaii, 8-4.

The Peach Belt Conference initiated the Tennis Player of the Week awards in 2002 and recognized recognize the league's best players five times during the dual match season. Evgeni Mikheev of Lander was this week's PBC Player of the Week honoree.

The Lady Pirate tennis squad is next in action at the Peach Belt Conference Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., on April 18-20 at the University of North Florida. AASU is the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of the USC Aiken/Francis Marion first-round match on Thursday afternoon.
