Women's Tennis: No. 2 AASU 6, Loughborough University 1 (Exhibition)
SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team captured an exhibition match against Loughborough University of England, 6-1, at the AASU Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Playing in a seven-point format, the Lady Pirates split doubles matches with Loughborough. AASU's Zsofi Golopencza and Laura Peaty defeated Nicole Trinder and Kirsty McRae, 8-2, while Harriet Piercy and Claire Hamilton defeated the Pirates' Dziyana Nazaruk and Luisa Cowper, 8-4.
In singles, the Lady Pirates won all five singles matches. Golopencza knocked off Trinder, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Cowper defeatd Hamilton, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, and Nazaruk, Caroline Grage and Manuela Emmrich all picked up singles wins.
The Pirates return to action on Sunday when they host No. 12-ranked Barry at 10:30 a.m. in their final regular season home match of the year.
