Women's Tennis: No. 2 AASU 9, Kennesaw State 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women’s tennis team moved one game away from capturing the 2005 Peach Belt Conference regular season title by blanking Kennesaw State, 9-0, on Wednesday morning at the AASU Tennis Complex.

The Lady Pirates moved to 19-0 overall and 9-0 in the Peach Belt Conference with the victory and travel to North Florida (8-1 PBC) on Thursday in a match that will determine if the Pirates share the regular season title with the Ospreys or clinch it outright. AASU has already clinched at least a share of its 11th PBC women’s tennis title.

The Pirates won all three doubles matches from the Owls (3-8, 2-7 PBC), then swept all six singles matches. Luisa Cowper defeated Paula Takara, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to pace the Lady Pirates, while Manuela Emmrich, Caroline Grage, Laura Peaty, Sofia Haggstrom and Kristen Kelly also picked up singles victories for AASU.

AASU next visits the University of North Florida on Thursday, April 7, for a 2:00 p.m. match with the Lady Ospreys.
