Championships - First Round
Armstrong Atlantic State 5, Presbyterian 0
PENSACOLA, Fla. The No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team defeated Presbyterian College, 5-0, in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis National Championships on Thursday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla.
The Lady Pirates swept all three doubles matches, then clinched the match with two singles wins. ITA National Rookie of the Year Zsofi Golopencza defeated Presbyterian's Rachel Key, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and freshman Laura Puch defeated Kelly Fitzpatrick, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles for the Lady Pirates (22-5). Presbyterian ends the season at 21-11.
AASU will now face No. 6-ranked Barry University in the quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at the University of West Florida courts in Pensacola, Fla.
