Petersen, Tribolet Earn Verizon Academic All-District III Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior men's tennis players Christopher Petersen and Blaise Tribolet were named to the Verizon Academic All-District III Spring At-Large team on Tuesday, as determined by a vote of the members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both earned the honor for the second straight year and advance to the national ballot for a chance to earn Academic All-America honors.

Petersen is an ITA All-American and three-time All-Peach Belt Conference player for the Pirates who was recently awarded the 2001 AASU President's Cup by the Exchange Club, given to the top male and female student-athlete at AASU. This season he helped the No. 15-ranked Pirates to their seventh straight NCAA Regionals appearance, compiling an 11-14 singles and 13-12 doubles record. He is currently ranked No. 44 in the nation in singles and No. 6 in doubles and graduated in May from AASU with a 3.74 GPA in economics.

Tribolet was the 2001 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year for the Pirates after compiling a 26-13 singles and 13-12 doubles record during the season. A two-time All-Peach Belt Conference honoree, he was the PBC's Freshman of the Year in 1999 and also graduated in May from AASU with a 3.76 GPA in economics. He is currently ranked No. 30 in the nation in singles and No. 6 in doubles.

Both players are now eligible for Verizon Academic All-America honors. A selection committee of CoSIDA members will name the three Men's Spring At-Large teams on June 12.
